FAMILY LIFE - ADULT

“I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” John 10:10

An ancient Chinese proverb states, “Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach

a man to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime.” This proverb underscores the incredible power

of teaching and training. It is training that makes us able to do the good works that we want

to do – works like being a good friend, building a loving marriage, parenting our kids well,

and helping people know God (2 Timothy 3:16-17). When the Bible is used in training us to tackle the challenges of life, we are happier, more productive, and more fruitful in everything we do.

Consider these sobering statistics about the state of the world:

25% of high school students seriously contemplate suicide every year. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among youths ages 15-24 (National Institutes of Mental Health). Bankruptcies have doubled in the last decade (Gary Belsky, “Drowning in Debt,” My Generation, Sep-Oct 2001).

43% of North Americans take some kind of mood-altering drug to cope with stress, loneliness, and depression (anxietycentre.com).

Clearly, there is a desperate need for spiritual life training! Proverbs 13:14 says it best,

“The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death.

With this in mind, we are excited to announce the launch of our Life Workshops this coming year. The goal of these workshops is to provide solutions to deal with the various challenges we face regardless of where we are in life. This is a new approach to providing spiritual and practical solutions to life, and we hope it will help both members and visitors to our church experience more of God’s hope-filled plan for each of us!
