OUR STORY

STORIES. Our lives are shaped by them and filled with them. They remind us who we are, where we came from, who we've become, and how we've changed along the way.
And they remind us who the Author is.
God is the Author of SPC's story. He has made us who we are and brought us to today. Each time we tell the story He has written with our lives, we are humbled by His blessing and are eager to give Him credit for all He has done.
The vision was a true community who share their lives and share their journey with one another, growing together, encouraging one another, praying for and with one another and reaching out in the Name of Jesus to all who are disconnected from Him and from His church. We are just beginning this life-changing journey together, learning to join God in the mission of loving and reaching others with the message of hope. God has blessed us with groups of people all over western North Carolina who are passionate about sharing the journey of becoming more like Jesus in every way, and building us into communities of faith where lives are transformed and communities are blessed by our presence.
We believe that God's pattern for the church has never changed. We gather to celebrate Him, to praise Him for who He is, to thank Him for what He has done and to offer our lives for His service. We leave renewed through encounter with Him and the shared celebration of Him as we go about our lives as missional people. We meet together during the week to break bread together, study His Word, share our joys and pains with one another and with Him in prayer, and encourage one another. Each week we are living out that ancient rhythm in order to sync our lives with God and one another that we might be His heart and hands to the world.
God has blessed our young church more than those who began this adventure ever dreamed. He has created a growing community of seekers, learners, worshipers, volunteers, and leaders. He has shown us in countless ways that buildings are merely "boxes" to be used to worship Him, and reach out to the community, that the church isn't the building, the church is the people who have committed their lives to God, one another and ministering to the world together in His Name.He has provided creativity, flexibility, and opportunities to continue to transform gatherings in places throughout Western North Carolina into "church". He has shaped us into a hands-on church where ministry is initiated, led, and carried out by teams of committed volunteers. He has used times of transition, dependence, and transformation to teach and remind us that His Church is led by Christ alone.
Above all, we are humbly aware that we're part of a much bigger story than our own: God's global movement called the Church. Our small part of this history is still being written by God's creative hand, and we're excited to see each new page emerge. Every person we meet, including you, becomes a part and changes our story through who you are. We're learning and becoming. With every risk taken in faith with every life we encounter, we're being changed by Christ to be more like Him. Whenever, wherever, whatever the cost, we desire to be a church that seeks where God is moving, and responds without hesitation to follow His lead.
