WHAT TO EXPECT
![]()
If you're checking out SPC for the first time, you can expect the same thing that many now look forward to each and every week. A place to continually grow in the life that we've been created to live in relationship with Jesus.
Specifically, we are Anglican in our roots but Anglican with a twist. Anglican tends to mean a more formal worship style with lots of participation by reading, praying and singing by the congregation.
We value our tradition and those who have deeply formed by the rhythms of Anglican worship. There are riches beyond compare in the Prayer Book tradition and so at 8:00 a.m. we have a worship service that is “by the book” and is contemplative and has no musical accompaniment.
At our 10:30 a.m. worship service we use different forms for the worship depending on the time of
year, a bit more formal at certain times and other times we use worship forms that come from Anglican churches in Africa that have a different rhythm of expressing timeless truth.
Our music at 10:30 a.m.is led by a worship band and embraces both hymns and modern praise and worship. We believe tradition is important in connecting us with the church as it has existed since the
day of Pentecost but we also believe that traditionalism is not a value. We would say we are informally traditional and don’t have a dress code. At SPC you’re as likely to see jeans as ties and dresses.
This website should help you with all questions you may have as to who we are, what we believe,
and what we do. If you need anything else answered just send an email with your questions to questions@spc-asheville.org and we'll get right back to you.
Thanks for checking us out and we hope to see you soon.
