DISCIPLESHIP

Discipleship
We are called to be disciples of Jesus Christ. That term simply means student. A disciple is one who is learning from the master teacher but not only being filled with knowledge for the sake of knowledge but wisdom for the journey. When Jesus called his disciples He gave them the opportunity to come and follow. What they learned was a way of living that would show whose disciples they were.

We are called to that same journey of following Jesus, intimacy with Him that leads to us becoming more like Him in all respects including inviting others on this journey with us. His commitment to us is complete and the cross is the ultimate symbol of that commitment and His call to those who would be His disciples is to take up their cross and follow Him.

Our aim is to be a community of disciples who lead our lives in keeping with our beliefs that our witness may be expressed in a unity of life and words.

Foundational to our understanding of discipleship is that it is more than a Bible Study and is about life as much as it is about knowledge. We have chosen to use the book, Ten Traits of a Healthy Disciple as a basic text to understand what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. Disciples respond to a call and part of that response is a practical one, using their gifts and talents to serve the Lord. In order to identify those gifts and put them into service, we use the Network program.

We are committed to identifying and equipping leaders who are committed to Jesus Christ and to reaching others with the Gospel. This will require of those seeking leadership an authentic faith, Godly character, and a servant's heart. — SPC Core Values
